MY STORY
01 · Many homesEvery move came with the same question.
I was born in Lattakia, Syria. I grew up in Curaçao, then built my life in Florida and now Los Angeles. Every border I crossed came with a question nobody answered clearly: am I covered here? As a newcomer, I learned how easy it is to fall into the gap between one country’s system and the next, and how little help there is when you do.
02 · Family visitingHosting family should not start with fine print.
When family came to see me in the United States, buying their visitor medical insurance was the most stressful part of the trip. Policy maximums, deductibles, acute onset, pre existing conditions: every site said something different, and the cheapest option was rarely the one that would have helped in an American hospital.
03 · On the roadThe fine print is the only thing that matters later.
Traveling taught me that the details you skim at checkout are the only details that count when something goes wrong. The surprise is never in the headline. It is in the exclusion you did not read, written in a language that was designed to be skimmed.
04 · The industryI know how insurance gets sold.
I have spent my career in marketing and search. I know how the category is sold: a big promise up front, the real terms buried below, fake urgency, and nobody to call when you need a human. That frustration stayed with me.
05 · OmbrelaSo I built the guide I always wanted.
The idea took shape in Curaçao in 2019. Ombrela is what I wish my family and I had every time we crossed a border: clear answers, honest comparisons and a real person on the other end. I am a global citizen, and I built this for global citizens.
